Welcome!Grandma always said, "Life is a school." I get a kick out of writing stories for youth (of all ages) about what I've learned along life's path—usually the hard way!
How do I pick my protagonists? They have traits in common that fascinate me—pioneers with drive and ambition, they constantly reinvented themselves. Now that I think about it, my favorite books as a kid were Little House on the Prairie and Miss Pickerell Goes to Mars. I live in the land of liquid sunshine—aka Portland Oregon—with my high school sweetheart and the ghosts of our incredible twin cats. For more info, click on STORIES (from the school of life) for a laugh or two, NEWS for some (not so) up to the minute news, or GOOD READS for some of my favorite children's books. NERD-VANA--The Voyager Race to Outer Space, a fascinating middle grade story about what happens when you pair a once-in-a-176-year planet alignment with some brainiacs and a tech revolution. So, climb aboard, strap on a seatbelt, and sail along with the nerds who defy the odds as they design, build, and fly two robotic spacecraft past Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune (and their moons!), then on into interstellar space. Filled with colorful illustrations and real-life photos (courtesy of NASA), this stranger-than-fiction story will blow your mind. (Coming soon!)

SHE FORGOT HER MANNERS AND GOT THE VOTE--The Pioneering Life of Abigail Scott Duniway, a rollicking chapter book biography chock full of colorful illustrations and anecdotes about Abigail, a spunky girl who, after setting off on the Oregon Trail from Illinois in 1852, lands in Oregon, where she realizes that minding her manners won't get her the vote. To the reader's delight, Abigail resorts to some not-so-ladylike words and behaviors. (Now on Amazon!)
CHESS QUEENS--How the Polgar Sisters Rocked the World, a lyrical story about what happens when a couple of parents decide to home school their daughters and train them to be chess prodigies. While the Hungarian government would just as soon commit the parents, instead the world gains three chess champions--Susan, Sofia, and Judit Polgar. Beautiful double-spread watercolor illustrations compliment this charming picture book biography about how some dreams really do come true.
